75 Years Strong

Our story began in 1940 when, Elmer Standley, started what is now Standley Batch Systems, Inc., as “Standley and Company.” This year we celebrate 75 years of continued innovation and excellence leading the material handling industry.

Founder Elmer Standley began the company as a builder of steel crates, which were used to ship large rock crushers to China. During World War II, the company assisted the war effort by building crates for International generators overseas. Standley and Company also manufactured milk coolers for the dairy industry.

In 1945, Standley and Company began manufacturing concrete batching equipment. Soon after, Elmer Standley built Guth Brothers Block plant in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Standley then relocated the company to Cape Girardeau and built Kasten Block plant in 1957.

Around 1960, Standley and Company became Standley Bin and Conveyor and moved to their present location on the banks of the Mississippi River in Cape Girardeau.

During the 1980s, Standley Bin and Conveyor emerged as one of the most innovative companies in the concrete industry. Ted Holzum, who served as plant manager at the time, was the first to develop a system that automatically dispersed color into the concrete mixer within one hundredth of a pound accuracy. This new system made adding color by hand obsolete.

In 1989, Richard Griffith purchased Standley Bin and Conveyor and changed the name to Standley Batch Systems, Inc. Standley continued to grow by purchasing additional land and adding building facilities.

In 2000, long-time employees Ted Holzum, Shapley Hunter and Sally Strickland purchased the company. Today, Standley Batch continues to grow, now employing 50 of the best craftsmen and is proudly celebrating 75 years in business in 2015.

“It’s an honor to have been here for more than half of those 75 years and see the innovation and growth within Standley Batch and the way it continues to impact the material handling industry,” said Ted Holzum, President / Owner.

Standley Batch supplies customized equipment and is proud to say they have never built two identical plants, as all plants are designed to meet the customers’ needs and location. Customizing equipment also allows Standley to upgrade and retrofit new equipment in existing plants.

Standley Batch Systems, Inc. is proud to supply quality service and equipment made in the Heartland of the U.S.
